Sydney & Wollongong Fishing Report

The boys on the P.H.G.F.C. boat “Rabbit” fished the Sydney Game Fishing Tournament last weekend with a huge win. About 15 minutes after setting the spread they hooked a 288kg Blue Marlin that went crazy on the surface only 30-40m off the back of the boat! Their freshly spooled Tiagra 80 and the Tiagra Ultra 50-80 bent butt they bought from our Taren Point store handled the fish beautifully and the fish was gaffed just 35 minutes after hooking up. They won the $50,000 prize money for the Blue Marlin, and also won heaviest Tuna for the comp with a very solid 59.5kg Yellow Fin! Well done lads!

One of our Taren Point customers headed 55 nautical miles off Cronulla over the weekend and caught a 53kg Yellowfin Tuna on an Entice Bullet Head 8” Lure.

Amanda Lamond landed a 61kg Yellowfin Tuna on 15kg line last Saturday, which is currently a pending NSW and Australian junior line class record!

George and his crew fishing on MIKROS found Tuna in 800 fathoms wide off Port Hacking over the weekend. They said the water wasn’t too warm but it was still packed with fish. They ended up landing this big ol’ Yellowfin Tuna with a short length of 1.55m.

Joel Oliver is pictured with a nice 63kg Yellowfin caught recently.

Snapper are being caught off Wollongong anywhere between Port Kembla up to Bellambi in around 10-20 metres of water, soft plastics and bait are both working. Jackson Sweet is pictured with one of many nice reds caught Tuesday morning, the Z-Man 5″ Paddlerz were doing most of the damage.

Flathead are also being called between the Wollongong anywhere from Lake Illawarra to Port Kembla Beach.

Kiama is still producing nice Bonito and Kingfish off the headlands.

Ethan Hogan is pictured with a nice Cobia he speared up north recently.

Shane Barling did over the weekend with this nice Flathead caught between the Reds and Bream.

Josh Robbins went out for a quick fish over the weekend which resulted in a few nice Flathead caught on the Jackson G-Control funnily enough, with a Bonito dropped at his toes on the same lure. He also caught a nice Bream using the Jackson IGA Jigspin and said that even though this is not your typical Bream lure it works a treat in hard flowing water as it’s small and heavy, allowing you to work it fast while staying in the strike zone, plus the flasher adds that fleeing baitfish glint!

Fergo fished Lake Conjola over the weekend for a few nice Flathead while testing a brand new Bottom Magic colour that hasn’t yet been created but looks delicious! The lake still isn’t open but the fish are well and truly biting.
