Sydney & Wollongong Fishing Report
Jackson fished the Port Hacking River a few days ago for a nice 76cm kingfish. He used 9” Slug-Go plastics rigged weedless with an unweighted 6/0 hook while fishing the middle of the incoming tide. After casting as far as he could he used a big sweeping action to pull the lure in along the surface with a pause after it.
Xavier has been doing well on the kings lately around Sydney, scoring a 75cm fish inside last week and then again outside at 12 mile reef on the jig earlier this week.
XL kingfish have been spotted smashing into schools of slimy mackerel outside the heads of Botany Bay.
Some big metre plus kingfish have been caught off the National Park down towards Marley and Wattamolla. Try burleying first to bring the fish around and then send a live yellowtail down.
Roman is pictured with a nice 83cm kingfish he took from Sydney Harbour out of his kayak using fresh cuttlefish.
Good catches of Flathead in 30-40m of water south of Port Hacking.
Reports of plenty of Drummer off Kurnell peninsula, with peeled prawns doing the trick.
Snapper are on the chew this month with many fish being caught in close and further out. John and his dad George fished in about 70m of water off Garie on Monday and caught 8 nice fish using both the Jackson Gallop Assist Long Cast and the Jackson Tobisugi Daniel lures. As soon as the lures hit the bottom they would lift it up a full rod length off the bottom and wind the line tight. From there they were lifting the rod another full length with a shake at the top, then letting the lures flutter back down. The fish usually take the lures on the drop, and the rod can even be left in the holder while you fish for something else or just sit back and relax, letting the swell do the work.
George took this oversized squid from the Hacking last weekend.
Joel Oliver has been doing well on the yellowfin tuna, landing 3 from 5 with the Gorecki’s on Sunday and another nice 37kg fish last night. The colder waters should push in real soon bringing with them the schools of Tuna.
Mitch has been spearfishing a bit lately and says over the weekend there were lots of snapper in close and shallow, and also big schools of trevally around the shallow washes. He also saw this nice big school of silver drummer. Squid and cuttlefish are also around.
Zac Forst has been cleaning up on crayfish lately, nailing two in one dive off the Stanwell Park area. They’re in good numbers at the moment and pretty sizey too.
Snapper between the 2-4kg range are in 5-10m of water in the northern wollongong suburbs feasting on cuttlefish.
A big 18kg kingfish was speared off Wollongong a couple of days ago.
Ian fished down at St Georges Basin with his brother a couple of days ago for a nice mixed bag of flathead, bream and tailor, all on lures.
